Director, Writer, Producer, Actor, Singer/Songwriter & Choreographer are just a few of the titles that best describe Jonathan Rowan. Jonathan is the true definition of talent, drive, passion, creativity and vision. Considered a man of many talents behind and in front of the camera, there is no limit to the skills that he possesses from cinematography, editing, directing, writing and producing scripts and film concepts. Combined with intellect, charisma, perseverance, creativity and a work ethic rivaled by few, Jonathan Rowan is destined to be one of Hollywood's next Leading Filmmakers.
One of the first things that attracted Jonathan to the art of filmmaking was his love for the arts. Ever since he was a child, Jonathan had always longed to become part of the entertainment industry. Growing up in a single parent house hold in Louisville, Kentucky, his mother instilled moral character, principles, values, and the importance of having vision & achieving your goals. By age 4, Jonathan quickly gained a passion for the arts through his talents of singing, dancing, acting, and playing the piano. And by the age of 24, he had explored all of these fields being featured in stage productions, dance performances, piano recitals, and also singing competitions across the United States. It was his love for the arts that inspired Jonathan to use his gift of writing to create visions of stories untold.
During his middle and high school years, Jonathan began writing short stories and soon developed a passion for the art of storytelling. He would often write scenario based stories, using the names of his friends and craft visions of fantasy, horror, and moral value. It would not be until college that Jonathan would find a way to infuse all of his talents together and make his visions become reality.
In 2007, Jonathan began working for the media services department on the campus of Northern Kentucky University. During his time there, Jonathan gained experience with audio/visual skills behind the camera, editing, lighting, studio production, live event recordings, music video production and film production. And in 2009, he and a fellow co-worker developed an indie media production company called, Fresh Air Productionz. Their production company specialized in music video production, public service announcements, developing a web based talk show, and also spotlighting local & national talent that graced the campus of NKU. But this was still just the beginning of what Jonathan had discovered he could accomplish.
In 2010, Jonathan began developing a concept for a full length feature film. This led him to write, produce, film, direct, and edit his first independent horror film called, Slasher. Slasher tells the story of a fictitious media production company, whose employees are being stalked by an unforeseen individual. When the employees start disappearing, it soon becomes clear that if anyone is to survive the night, they must discover a dark secret that could possibly destroy them all. And in March of 2011, he began writing a script for the film.
Over the next few years, Jonathan carefully crafted the project and began production of the film. In October 2014, Slasher had successfully exited post-production and was now ready to be introduced to the public. Since then, Slasher has been screened publicly during two Kentucky based premiere events and will be screening in film festivals in the coming year.
Throughout his time in undergrad, Jonathan continuously encouraged campus involvement with many of his peers and provided inspiration as to how to set goals for one's self and how to follow through and achieve them. Once Jonathan set a goal for himself, he let nothing stand in his way of accomplishing it. Jonathan has displayed this through his leadership ability, creativity, passion, and ability to think outside the box. He is not only the first person, at NKU, to make a full length feature film at an undergrad level, but the only person to successfully do so period. Jonathan is now currently attending graduate school at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California pursuing an MFA in film production.
